On this Small Business Saturday I like to suggest to shop with purpose. As a socially cautious consumer I want to promote companies that are bringing awareness and change. My family, parents, sister, grandmother were small business owners and it’s in my D.N.A. as this is what I grew up with. I spent many days while my sister ran her store on Venice Beach. Never did I know all that I was learning from an early age. Here we are now trying to create our own brand. As we are in the beginning stages I give a lot of respect to small businesses especially companies that are giving back. The following companies listed are businesses that I’ve followed. Some are friends and others mission statements struck a chord with me. These are brands that promote awareness, supporting life threatening illnesses, veterans, local communities and globally. This is exactly what we believe at Warrior Lifestyle. That it’s a lifestyle to look at everything missional and know there is always a bigger purpose to serving others. This is not a paid post. I wanted to promote everyday people, entrepreneurs, small businesses that are inspiring, of many ages, trying to make a difference creatively through […]

With Thanksgiving ending and now entering the Christmas season I thought it would be great to share some creative ways to host a celebration. This Thanksgiving was a little different that I didn’t have my youngest son as he is in Mexico (see post). Though we had planned to go out-of-town as we normally do to see family we decided to be close to home. We actually were invited to two of my youngest son’s closest friends family dinners. They all have become good friends to us. I think we all were missing Marquez but felt his presence being with them. Since this is the first time I didn’t host my family’s Thanksgiving which is normally done the weekend of that week. However we’re all saving for a San Diego Christmas/New Year’s celebration trip. With that in mind we too have to buckle down to be able to make that trip. I was inspired by all the decor and food and thought how these little things just ad that extra something to the celebration. Which I still was able to do with the friendsgiving dinner we had earlier in the month (see post). As a host I notice small details. I feel it’s in the small details that make […]

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I am doing what many are doing today–taking some time to write the things I am thankful for today. Even though I often do this in my daily devotion and prayers. I wanted to dig a little deeper on my thoughts of how the little things are the big things. As you feast today with your loved ones think of the small gestures you can give. It doesn’t have to be material because in the scheme of life it’s always going to be about the little things they always end up being the big things that you’ll always remember and cherish. Love and I love yous – It’s easy to forget to say those three simple words but telling your loved ones you love them as often as possible is the easiest little gesture that can warm up a heart. A warm embrace – Another gesture easily missed but hugs are scientifically healthy. We need the human touch and spiritually I feel it is another heart warmer. One hug a day can keep the haters away! Literally it is a total love gesture. Why not spread the love! Undivided Attention – Like many women I […]

With the holidays near I thought it was finally time to share the family photos that we took earlier in the year. I specifically saved them for this time of the year as we prepare to send out our holiday/Christmas cards. Photos have been another way to tell our story. I have been blessed to work with some talented photographers and their perspective always brought out another side to our stories. Because I loved these photos so much I wanted to wait to tell its story. If you were wondering what makes this Warrior LifeStyle it’s my warrior family who has fought alongside with me since the day we realized we had to work as a team to get through living life with chronic illness. We didn’t really understand how important it was to work together as a unified unit until my health failed. My boys were very young and we decided early on to help them understand that mommy was no longer healthy and we had to adjust accordingly. As I made a decision to be very open with my story to the world I wanted to be as open to my family. Never hiding that I needed dialysis to […]

On this #FoodieFamilyFriday I wanted to share the friendsgiving dinner at our house that we hosted this week wrapping up the book/Bible study that me and my husband was apart of. Which fed our spirit tremendously and knew it was time to feed our bodies and have this fellowship. In the spirit of the season this is the time we give of ourselves. I thought no better way than to share some of our family traditions. Chamorro red rice is a staple that you would see at any Chamorro party. Had to add have it with BBQ and finadeni. You can make it several ways but I usually use what I have and I have a healthy and not so healthy options. Have fun and Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! Chamorro Red Rice Prep Time: 45 minutes Serving 8-10 INGREDIENTS 5 cups short-grain rice, Calrose rice is preferred 5 1⁄2 cups water 4-5 Peices of Bacon or Turkey Bacon to make about 4 tablespoons bacon grease 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 tablespoon butter or I can’t believe it’s not butter (or whatever butter substitute you use) 2-3 packages achiote powder (Depending how red you like it) You can use achiote seeds and soak and […]

I had the great pleasure of attending 8th Annual EWOC-Exceptional Women of Color Conference. What I love most about being an ambassador with Sierra Donor Services – Donate Life is the opportunities to be apart of events such as this. From CEOs to retirees, principals to mothers, this year’s honorees represent everything a woman is and can be. All of these women from across Northern California have overcome multiple obstacles to become pillars of our community. (Source) Being an ambassador has empowered me in so many ways to not let my disease overcome me. I mention this a lot in my Warrior LifeStyle post while I was in planning stages for this blog. I shared how I come from a long line of leaders, creatives and entrepreneurs. There is something in me that continues to want to do my own thing and I’ve had some great success in it and some failures. But as I mentioned I’m a constant example to my family and now my blogging community (city/world/influence). So I must push forward. I made this after being inspired by one of the workshops, O.N.E. We must overcome obstacles, Never give up on the road to have our best year Ever. […]

Just wanted to share the latest of my writing which has flowed so very nicely on the new blog. Just playing around with new topics and putting things out there not really knowing what to expect but with one goal to stay committed to working at it. This has been an amazing experience just to keep at it.
I will have a full website launch when I get our Etsy Store set up. Lots of little details to work on there too. Just to add another thing I decided it was time to take a lot of the writings from this blog and convert it to an eBook. Edited and self published. To help build our community at Warrior LifeStyle and the first 100 subscribers will receive a digital draft of the ebook before it comes out January, 2017. Be sure to share with your fellow warrior friends too!
Thank you for coming along the journey as I continue to learn and grow through this Warrior LifeStyle!
